North Chanel

North Chanel was truly beautiful, even I was impressed. Unfortunately pictures just do not tell the story. Here are a few to bring us a little closer. Just FYI we are currently in Kentucky on Kentucky Lake. We hope to be home in Mid November. Joan survived the Mississippi and actually found it kind of neat. ( Jay)

We headed straight for Manitowaning on Manitoulin Island so we could get to meeting on Sunday. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water. The ecclesia on Manitoulin was so welcoming and helpful. Kim and Joe Cooper even offered us the use of their car. We were in Little Current a few days later and Joe and Kim picked us up for Bible Class. It was great fun to listen to the history of their ecclesia and try to figure out who we knew in common. Manitowaning is a little off the beaten path for Loopers but it was beautiful and quiet and nice swimming.

We backtracked too Killarney on Monday for it’s famous fried fish in the converted bus on the channel.  Not the best fish we have had but an experience none the less.  We then headed out for a nice anchorage with good swimming, nice sunsets, and friends we had met along the way.

This is Baie Fine, possibly my favorite anchorage on this trip. Beautiful sunsets, scenery, sandy beaches and clear water. We took the dingy to the end which ends in a pool. Mitch and Carole from Serendipity and David and Brenda from Old Grouch were with us. We hiked up to Topaz Lake which was not and easy job but well worth it. I was pleasantly surprised that Topaz lake was named for a blue topaz not a yellow one. The water was so clear and blue. I was HOT from the climb. I don’t think water ever felt so good! After I cooled off I found that the water actually had a soft feel to it. Marvelous! The lake is surrounded by Limestone and is so basic nothing grows or lives in it leaving it crystal clear and able to see bottom in 50 feet.

So here is the next water experience.  This is Bridal Veil Falls at Kagawog back on Manitoulin.  There is a beautifully developed walkway along a stream up to the falls.  How fun too swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls and then stand under the falls.

This is our last anchorage on North Channel.  Again, quiet, beautiful.  Only problem was, Molly was sick.  But, the sunrise was wonderful as we cleaned up the boat, and I took a morning swim before we left.

Big Dragon Flies came for a visit as we left
