Georgian Bay

We haven’t posted anything on our blog for about 5 weeks because we were spending all our time enjoying the Georgian Bay and North Channel.

After having the mast stepped in Midland we went to Chimney Bay and anchored a few days. We went for a walk up the cliffs and took pictures from the top. This was a beautiful anchorage on Besoileau Island Park. Beautiful clear water for swimming off the back ofl the boat. Loons, one with her baby, swimming together.

This is Windsong anchored in Chimney Bay. I even got the beautiful rocks and moss in this picture.

Here are Mom and Dad Loon with baby right behind. You have to look close to see baby.

This is my favorite picture of a loon. Wish I could share their calls with you too.
Sailed back to Midland,(nice marina- Bay Port). There was an international boat race going on. The teams would sail the boat some times and row the others. This is a picture of one team sailing and another rowing. It was fun to listen to the cheers and songs in all different languages as they went by. The reason we went back was to pick up my repaired HP computer The unit was back and keyboard replaced with a Canadian one that has an extra function key and all sort of stuff for French. Unfortunately UPS smashed the screen so the unit has to go back again.

Good picture of a team sailing. That’s our AGCLA flag in the foreground

After Midland we went to Frying Pan Bay. Another beautiful, good swimming, good hiking, beautiful sunrise/set place. Then to Bay Moorings Marina in Penatang for a wonderful AGCLA rendezvous. It was great to get to know so many other boaters looping with us. As we travel from here we seem to travel as a group, almost always at a marina or anchoring with another boat, getting together for side trips and drinks or dinner.

Tuesday afternoon they had a cardboard boat race. Our team designed and made the Dog Paddle Express.

Captain Jay was way out in front, taking the lead, using 2 dog PFD’s for safety.

have to admit that Loopers Bloopers deserved to win both for seaworthiness and artistic design. Their craft was totally dry at end ours was totally saturated.

I just loved this picture. Wish you were all here to enjoy it with me.

Here we are at Henry’s famous fish restaurant. We sat by the windows and watched the boats circling waiting for dockage for lunch. Also the planes coming and going looking for a place to land. I’m a little home sick so I’m wearing my Massachusetts T-shirt.

This is one of the tall ships that was sailing behind Windsong while we wee docked in Parry Sound. Jay was working on the starboard engine (not a pleasant job) and didn’t get to see them. My job was to sit at the helm, start the engine every once in a while, watch the boats sail by and talk to all the wonderful people that came by. One man came by in a kayak and offered to go get his car and drive us into town if we needed anything. The Tall Ships are traveling in our direction so we get to see them a lot.
Somewhere in here comes the Snug Harbor story. This is where we parked the boat on a rock ledge. There were 2 girls out in a red canoe having a little difficulty, so Jay being courteous tried to go behind them to avoid giving them a wake. Unfortunately the rock ledge was right behind them. Typical Georgian bay rock 27 feet high in 30 feet of water. Took a little to get us off but with the help of Serendipity we were soon free. A dive revealed no damage to props or rudders few scratches on keel that can be repaired when bottom is refinished at Dog River Marian in Mobile AL

.

Serendipity and other boats in Snug harbor.

We traveled Colin’s inlet early AM with rising sun behind us this will always be one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives. Here are 10 of the better pictures we took.

Right after Colin’s we went to Killarney which is the beginning of North Chanel which will be the next blog.
